Free VPN for Android in India: APK or Google Play

Search for a free VPN app for Android and you get a list of brands. In 2026 the Indian government had fourteen of them removed from Google Play and the App Store. The free vpns that remain among apps on Google Play stay free by selling your data, or throttle you to push a premium plan. And on Jio and Airtel, OpenVPN and WireGuard traffic is easy to detect and slow down at peak hours.

We solve this by not being an app. Our product is a key: a vless:// link with your credentials inside. The Android VPN client you paste it into is a general purpose tool that is not a VPN provider's brand, so there is nothing for a takedown to target. The vpn protocols underneath, VLESS with Reality, look like ordinary HTTPS, which is the reason this keeps working when a branded VPN service on Android does not.

A free VPN service has to pay for its servers somehow. Free vpns often do it with your browsing data, which they share with advertisers, or with ads injected into pages, or with a free plan so throttled that you upgrade out of frustration. The risks associated with free apps are not theoretical: several of the most downloaded free Android VPN apps have been caught logging traffic they promised not to keep.

Our free trial is different in kind. It is five days of the paid, no-logs service: no ads, no data sale, no free version with slower speeds. The VPN client itself is open source, so the security practices are public. If a free and unlimited VPN for Android sounds too good, it is; a reliable free trial of a paid service is the honest version of that promise.

Google Play is fine while the client is there. The point of the APK route is insurance: if a client ever disappears from the store, its GitHub releases page still has the APK, and your key does not care which build you use. We keep both routes documented on the APK page below, together with the phones without Google services where the APK is the only way.

Whatever you do, install clients only from Google Play or the developer's own GitHub. Modded APKs from download sites are the number one way people get malware while looking for a free VPN, and a modded VPN app is the worst place for malware to sit, because it sees all your traffic.

The tunnel uses standard TLS 1.3 to encrypt everything between the phone and the VPN server. Your ISP sees one encrypted session; websites see the server's IP address, not yours, which prevents website trackers from tying your visits to your Jio or Airtel address. That is what a private VPN on Android is for: privacy and security on networks you do not control, from a hostel Wi-Fi to an airport hotspot.

Both v2rayNG and Hiddify have a kill switch, called Always-on VPN and Block connections without VPN in Android settings. Turn both on and no app can leak traffic when the tunnel drops. Those two switches are the security features that matter; an ad blocker and other advanced security features in premium VPN apps are extras, not the core.

VLESS with Reality is light. On a mid-range phone the client adds a few percent of battery use over a day, noticeably less than OpenVPN. From India the UAE and Singapore servers add about 40 ms, which you will not feel in a browser or a video call; the fastest VPN server for most of the country is the UAE. Faster speeds than your own line are not possible through any tunnel, and anyone promising them is measuring something else.

What we do not do: no servers inside India, because servers in the country fall under CERT-In log retention and a no-logs policy cannot survive that; no help with gambling platforms or piracy sites; no promise of total anonymity. A VPN protects the path between your phone and our server and hides your IP address. It does not make an account you log into anonymous.
