What changed in India

Three things made the usual best-VPN lists useless here. In 2026 the government had fourteen VPN apps removed from Indian app stores. Since the 2022 CERT-In directive, providers with servers in India must keep user records for five years, so NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark and others moved out and now serve virtual Indian IPs from Singapore or London. And Jio and Airtel throttle OpenVPN, WireGuard and IKEv2, the protocols almost every VPN app uses.

So the best VPN for India is not the fastest in a US speed test. It is the one that is still installed, still connecting and still not logging when those three things happen to it.

The checklist

Protocol Jio and Airtel cannot fingerprint: VLESS with Reality. OpenVPN and WireGuard fail this in peak hours.
Not dependent on a store listing: a key you paste into any client passes; a brand app fails the day it is pulled.
No servers inside India: passes CERT-In by not being subject to it. Virtual Indian IPs are fine, physical ones are not.
Rupee prices by UPI, no international card, nothing that renews silently.
Servers close to India: UAE and Singapore at 40 to 50 ms.
A free trial you can run on your own Jio or Airtel line before paying.

How the famous names score

  • NordVPN: strong app, but OpenVPN and NordLynx get throttled on Airtel, and the app is the thing that gets removed. Priced in dollars.
  • ExpressVPN: Lightway is quick but fingerprintable; virtual India servers; premium dollar pricing.
  • Surfshark: cheap on long plans, WireGuard-based, same throttling and store risk.
  • Proton VPN: honest no-logs record and a real free plan, but Stealth is not Reality and the free plan is slow from India.
  • Turbo VPN and other free apps: pay for themselves with your data; avoid.
  • A VLESS key service like ours: passes the protocol and store points by design, and has no Indian servers. Where it is weaker: you install a third-party client yourself, and there is no one-tap app.

Test in five minutes instead of reading ten reviews

  1. 1Get a free key in the Telegram bot; no card.
  2. 2Paste it into v2rayNG, Hiddify, Streisand or V2Box.
  3. 3Connect to the UAE at 9 p.m. on your own Jio or Airtel line, the hour when throttling bites, and load whatever failed before.

Speed, honestly

From Mumbai or Delhi the UAE server adds about 38 ms and Singapore about 44 ms. Europe is around 120 ms and the US about 220 ms. No VPN changes those numbers much; the ones that advertise lower are measuring from Singapore. What matters is whether the throughput stays at your line speed at peak hours, and that is the throttling question, not the ping question.

What we are not the best at

If you want a one-tap app with a big button, a brand app is nicer to use until the day it is removed. If you need an Indian IP address while abroad, we do not have Indian servers, and a provider with virtual India locations serves that better. Everything else on this page we stand behind.

What we know about you: almost nothing

There is no account here. You never give us an email, a phone number or a name, so there is no profile to leak, sell or hand over. We know that a key exists and when it expires. We do not know what you open with it. Our servers are outside India, which puts us out of scope of the CERT-In directive requiring providers to store user records for five years. Providers who kept servers inside the country had to choose between complying and leaving, and most of them left. We are telling you where we stand instead of implying we are beyond every jurisdiction, which no one is.

  • No registration, no email, no phone number
  • No browsing history and no connection logs
  • Servers outside India, so CERT-In retention does not apply
  • Payment by UPI or crypto, no card details stored
  • Nothing renews automatically and nothing is charged silently

FAQ

Questions people ask before the first key

  • Which VPN is best for India in 2026?

One that passes the six-point checklist above: an unfingerprintable protocol, no store dependence, no Indian servers, rupee pricing, nearby servers and a real trial. Most brand apps fail the first two.

  • Is NordVPN good for India?

The app is good; the protocol is throttled on Airtel and the app itself can be removed from the store. Pricing is in dollars.

  • Which VPN has servers in India?

After CERT-In, most major providers offer virtual Indian IPs from Singapore or London. Physical Indian servers mean log retention, which is why we do not run any.

  • Is a free VPN good enough for India?

Free apps sell data or cap speed. A free trial of a paid service is different: ours is five days with no card.

  • What is the fastest VPN from India?

Any provider with UAE or Singapore servers will be around 40 ms. The differences that matter are throttling at peak hours, not headline ping.
